More efficient processes and a better working environment with a custom-developed climate control system

Michelin has played a pioneering role in the manufacture of engineering plastics and other composite materials for more than 130 years. The group's Hungarian subsidiary currently operates at four sites and employs approximately 1,400 people.

Michelin Hungária Kft. sought a sustainable and efficient climate control solution for its XH plant in Nyíregyháza. The primary objective was to implement a bespoke system that would deliver significant improvements for the company in terms of the manufacturing processes applied, the health and comfort of employees, and energy consumption alike.

The solution accordingly required a highly complex, multi-element system providing appropriate air conditioning and humidification for the plant, together with the water treatment necessary for this.

For humidification, two of Oxyma's own products were installed: a high-pressure direct atomisation humidification unit, and an evaporative humidification and post-cooling system integrated into the air handling unit.

The existing CIAT air handling system underwent a large-scale modernisation programme (Oxyma System Retrofit), which included, among other elements, the installation of an advanced fan grid and a new heating and cooling coil. The company's chiller system was upgraded with a PreCooll adiabatic pre-cooling wall.

To ensure an efficient water supply, an Oxyma HydroBank™ central water treatment station was also installed as part of the system, offering the possibility of recycling waste water sources as well.

The results speak for themselves: the system solution has provided the plant with a versatile air handling system offering more precise control, which can be used for cooling, pre-cooling, post-cooling and humidification alike. This improves the health, comfort and safety of employees, reduces reject and waste generation, and saves the company significant amounts of energy and water.

For this future-proof, sustainable investment, TAO (corporate income tax) and EEOS allowances could also be claimed.
